Sodium (Salt)
Sodium (Salt)
Capsicum are relatively tolerant of salts in the soil. Coastal regions and excessive use of soluble nutrients may create high salt levels at the root zone of the plant and this may create issues with the plants ability to absorb nutrients and begin a roller coaster of nutrient related symptoms.
Our advice is to be mindful of using soluble nutrient supplements that are high in sodium – excessively. Use these with restraint. Planting plants in raised rows and using drip irrigation can help flush salts away from the plants root zone.
If you are supplementing your plants with soluble nutrients that are high in sodium and suspect this may be the root of the nutrient issues, suspend and water your plants with plain water. Luckily salt will flush out with regular watering.
