Rocoto Costa Rica Yellow
Rocoto Costa Rica Yellow chilli seeds. The Rocoto Costa Rica Yellow (C. Pubescens) is a beautiful variation on a consistently great variety of chilli. Rocotos are simply fantastic and this variety is no exception to the rule. A small to medium plant that bears lots of large golf ball sized pods. Rocotos are unusual in the way their plants are covered in tiny hairs (hence the scientific name "Pubescens") These hairs make Rocotos very resilient to cold as well as most insects that do not enjoy the hairs on the foliage and branches. The Rocotos in general are well suited to our South African climate, being one of a few chillies that can be overwintered outside if basic requirements are met for overwintering. Rocotos will also bear fruit throughout the year. The other characteristic of Rocotos being their black seeds. These Rocotos - as the name sugests - are from Costa Rica. Pods are apple shaped (Manzano) and ripen from a green to yellow and ultimately an almost golden/orange colour when fully ripened. These chillies are super tasty with a fruity, sweet, vegetative flavour. A little salty and mineraly too. These are super tasty and very crispy and juicy when fresh and buttery soft when fully ripe. These are just fantastic when used fresh for salsa or made into sauce. Due to the thick flesh these are not well suited to drying though. Rocotos are one of our favourites chillies and this beautiful yellow variety is brilliant and gets our thumbs up!
