Mayan Love

Mayan Love Chilli Seeds. The Mayan Love (C. Annuum), we understand, originates from the Amazon basin. This chilli is not to be confused with the "Maya Love" which is a type of habanero. We have it that this chilli was used by the Mayans as an aphrodisiac when added to hot coco. This chilli will certainly create the endorphins! A great little chilli this. Very versatile and an easy grower in our books - so if you are a beginner at growing chillies, this is an easy one for you :) . We can't help but feel that this variety is like a giant tepin of sorts. Pods are cone shaped / ovaloid and facing heaven with very long stalks. Plants are very vertical in structure and quite sparese on foliage. These plants are very hardy, growing easily in cool as well as hot climates. The plants produce well, with pods growing from every node on the plant. Pods do take a long season to ripen, so it may be a good idea to start these early on in the season. But having said this, this chilli will grow through our winters as long as the watering is used with discresion. Pods eventually ripen from dark green to a lovely red colour. The chillies lend themselves well to drying an making into flakes or powder. Pods are thin skinned and very seedy, hence removing the seeds when dry and turning into powder may be best suited. These chillies can also be used fresh ofcourse - green or red, according to preference. The aroma of these is unmistakeably cayenne. Flavour is fruity and peppery with a subtle hint of sundried tomatoes. The heat is up there for annuums somewhere around 80,000 - 100,000 SHU. The burn is well rounded and instant and very up front, peppery. A super chilli for adding fresh to asian cooking perhaps, where instant heat is required. You may have to remove the seeds, as there are quite a lot and this is never a nice thing in food. But probably the best is to dry these peppers and turn them into an awesome powder. A really versatile and easy growing pepper for the beginner!
